The South Island is a land of contrast and one of the most diverse regions of natural beauty on the planet, with a rugged and unspoilt landscape, and a diversity of outdoor activities that is unparalleled. Get off the beaten track on this outdoor adventure that takes us to explore glaciers, lakes, wild coastlines and stunning beaches. There are opportunities for swimming with dolphins or seals, whale watching (seasonal), and the adrenaline rush of Queenstown, the adventure capital of the World –  with all its great activities on offer, including bungy jumping and jet-boating. The lakes of the Mackenzie region, the forest-fringed beaches of Nelson, Fox Glacier and Abel Tasman National Park are all highlights on this action packed tour.

Day 00:
Arrive New Zealand. Pick up from Christchurch airport and transfer to accommodation at the Airport Delta Motel. No activity.

Day 01: Christchurch – Geraldine (136km, 2.5hrs)
Head across the Canterbury plains with great views of the Southern Alps. Travel through lush south Canterbury farm land with a great cycle into Geraldine. Stay at the Scenic Route Motor Lodge at Geraldine.

Day 02: Geraldine – Rangitata – Lake Tekapo (20 + 140km, 2.5hrs)
Travel by bus to Rangitata and start the morning by white water rafting on the mighty Rangitata River. For those not wanting to raft, you can choose morning cycle rides or walks in Peel Forest.After a picnic lunch you travel through Geraldine and Mackenzie Basin with views of the Main Divide. Arrive at the amazing Lake Tekapo and view the historic church with great hike and cycle options. At night enjoy the amazing hot pools and have the chance to visit New Zealand’s premier astronomical research observatory.

Day 03: Lake Tekapo – Queenstown (375km, 5hrs)
Start the morning with an amazing lake side drive to Aoraki National Park. Here you can enjoy a great 3 hours hike around the basin of Mt Cook viewing the Tasman Glacier, New Zealand’s longest glacier. From here we head to the adventure capital of the world, Queenstown! Tonight we will enjoy a group dinner and get a taste of the famous Queenstown night life. Accommodation at Shotover Lodge.

Day 04: Queenstown

Enjoy one of many Queenstown activities on offer. Test yourself with an adrenalin pumping bungy, canyon swing, skydive, paraglide to name a few! Or enjoy a more relaxed horse trek, sail or gondola ride – this place has it all, as well as spectacular views. Great cycles and walks in alpine areas. – Free day for optional activities (see chart available below)

Day 05: Queenstown
Today we travel one of the world’s most scenic routes into the Milford Sound! Boat cruise to enjoy the fiord and all its beauty up close with possible wildlife viewing of Dolphins, Seals and the rear Fiord land Crested Penguins. Arrive back into Queenstown for the last night to enjoy the Southern Hemisphere’s premier Four Seasons Lake and alpine resort.

Day 06: Queenstown – Makarora (140km, 2.5hrs)
A relaxed start to the day then we head to the beautiful lake side town of Wanaka. First we test our minds at the intriguing Puzzle World then we stretch our legs with a great two hour hike taking in the wonderful views of central Otago. From here we continue on to Makarora Wilderness Camp with a great cycle ride option.

Day 07: Makarora – Fox Glacier (200km, 3.5hrs)
A relaxed morning followed by a jet boat ride into the Mt Aspiring National Park. Bus or cycle over the dramatic Haast Pass with spectacular views of the Southern Alps. Short walks through rainforest, past waterfalls and pools to the wild West Coast. Picnic lunch then head to Glacier country accommodation at Bella Vista Motel Fox Glacier with a chance to explore this unique town.

Day 08: Fox Glacier – Okarito (52km, 1.5hrs)
Spend the morning taking in the wonderful scenery before an optional guided walk on the spectacular glacier. Those keen can learn to ice climb. Walk around Lake Matherson. Head up the coast to camp at Okarito beach. Relax next to the fire with breathtaking views of the Southern Alps. Accommodation at Okarito Beach House.

Day 09: Okarito – Punakaiki (215km, 3.5hrs)
Magnificent early morning walk with a chance to spot a Kiwi in the wild. Visit Bushmans Museum, then onto Hokitika and its famous Greenstone factories. Coastal walk through native forest and cycle. Travel to the Paparoa National Park home to Punakaiki and the famous Pancake Rocks! Catch the sun set then explore the Punakaiki cavern for glowworms. Night at Punakaiki Resort.

Day 10: Punakaiki – Abel Tasman (300km, 4.5hrs)

Start the morning with a horse trek through the Punakaiki Valley and along the beach to pancake Rocks.. Travel through the beautiful scenery of the Buller Gorge to one of NZ’s most stunning spots – the Abel Tasman region. Optional skydive, hang glide or fly an aerobatic plane. Cycle the golden bays to Marahau, where we stay for two nights with the Abel Tasman National Park on our doorstep. Stay tonight at Abel Tasman Stables in Marahau.

Day 11: Abel Tasman
Walk the beautiful coastal track unguided at your own pace then Marine Reserve kayak tour. Spend the day paddling through the Tonga Island Marine reserve, past the lagoons and golden sands and into Anchorage where you will be transferred by water taxi back to Marahau.

Day 12: Abel Tasman – Kaikoura (320km, 5hrs)
Travel by bus to Nelson with a coastal cycle option on Tasman’s Great Taste Trial. Travel through the Marlborough wine region with a visit to Brancott Estate winery and a chance to taste the world famous wines. Travel the Pacific coast to Kaikoura, cycle stunning coastal route where close encounters with fur seals and a myriad of sea birds are common. Sea kayak and a spectacular evening peninsula walk. Stay at Aspen Court Motel. Optional Whale Watch for those interested.

Day 13: Kaikoura – Christchurch (200km, 2.5hrs)
Early morning Dolphin swim or Seal swim or a chance to explore Kaikoura. Head through Canterbury region and be dropped off at Christchurch airport for flight home.
Confirmed Activity: Dolphin viewing. Optional upgrade to Swim with the Dolphins

Day 14: Arrive home
