An exciting exploratory, a journey down the Father river, the mighty Brahmaputra. Starting at the tea gardens on Maijan, the exploratory uses cycles and inflatable kayaks to take in an experience that will stay with you forever. We explore Pani Dihing Bird sanctuary, the world’s largest inhabited river island, Hindu Satara monasteries, temple gardens, the Kaziranga National Park, take in a safari on elephant back, stop at 9th century temple complexes, camp in style on large sand bars of the river and spot the Gangetic Dolphin!

A menagerie of varied experiences, this remarkable curation is one that will make you want more, even when it’s over it reaches of this challenging river isolated. This beckoning river is challenging and demanding. It has volume, flow and adrenal flowing rapids set in a scenic breathtaking environment astride the Eastern Himalayas with its diverse warm-hearted hill people with their unique traditions and customs spread over a millennium with the inevitable change encroaching upon them rapidly.

Life on a River

DAYS 1-4

  • Day 1: Dibrugarh Arrival

Arrive Dibrugarh late afternoon by air. Transfer to hotel. Check in and expedition briefing at tea time. Evening local Assamese “sit down” dinner, is an absolute delight. Wind up for an early start the next day.

  • Day 2: Dibrugarh – Disangmukh

After breakfast, cycle 14 kms (approx.) through town, bundh and tea gardens to Rohmaria ghat to meet our boat. Board with cycles and reunite with inflatable kayaks and your crew! Drift downriver 83 km to Pani Dihing Bird Sanctuary. Camp at Disangmukh.

  • Day 3: Disangmukh

This morning, we cycle towards Pani Dihing to see the bird life in the marsh land. Use impromptu stops to lunch with locals and soak in the riverine environment.

  • Day 4: Disangmukh

Put-in Today we cycle to Sivasagar to see the Shiv Dol and Shivsagar lake and temple complex. Lunch at the temple garden. The Shiv Dol is the tallest Shiva temple in India at 104 feet and built by the Ahom queen in 1734. It is one of the most revered places in the north east, with a dome of Asia Pacific architecture, and has an inverted ling, unlike most Shiva temples. Back to Camp by late afternoon. Opportunities for engaging with local fishermen and tribes galore!

DAYS 5-8

  • Day 5: Disangmukh – Majuli

Today we pack camp and float 55-60 kms to Majuli, the world’s largest inhabited river island. A quick drop down to Kalibari ghat where we take a vehicle to our quaint hotel, to wash up, charge batteries and cycle or even scooter around the island. Visit the Hindu monastery called ‘Satara’ for Ras Leela celebrations, which continue through the night.

  • Day 6: Majuli

Cycle or scooter around the island, explore different communities Full Moon including Missing village, Deori village and Sunuwal Kosari village. More Ras Leela celebrations.

  • Day 7: Majuli – Kaziranga Wildlife Lodge

Today we are back on the water to travel 80 kms to come close to Kaziranga National Park at Dhansiri / Bahikhowa. Drive 1hr to Kaziranga, and go for an afternoon safari. Overnight wildlife lodge.

  • Day 8: Kaziranga Wildlife Lodge – Dhansiri / Bahikhowa

Early morning elephant safari followed by a jeep safari. Drive back to our waiting crew and boat at Dhansiri / Bahikhowa. Overnight Camp.

DAYS 9-12

  • Day 9: Dhansiri / Bahikhowa – Tezpur

Today, we float 90 km downstream to reach Tezpur. More Wildlife! Stop at Hatimura temple, and Kamakhya temples at Sil Ghat – an absolute must see!

  • Day 10 and 11: Tezpur – Guwahati

We cover 145 km in two days to reach Guwahati. Enroute stop to see the Gangetic dolphin at the Jia Bhoreli (Kameng) confluence. Watch the last waves of the Kameng meet with the Brahmaputra and spot the dolphin jump! Dock at our hotel in Guwahati, overnight hotel.

  • Day 12: Guwahati

Visit Madan Kamdev temple ruins. Transfer to airport for flight back home. Trip Ends!

  • All transfers in a non-AC vehicle as per the itinerary
  • All arrangements for staying and camping while on trip
  • Accommodation on twin sharing basis in tents / hotel
  • All meals as mentioned in itinerary & safe drinking water
